Today we reached Heidelberg and the wet has forced us into a cafe where our daily treats have reached a new high: 2 slices of cheesecake, 4 ciabatta sandwiches, 2 hot chocolates, and a lot of WIFI time.
We have had a great 5 days in Germany, each campsite giving us new reasons to fear the wildlife and weather.
A hellish storm came through in the middle of one night, bringing an onslaught of 30 or 40 very healthy slugs climbing the tent. Their shadows were lit up by the lightening and flicking them off from the inside continued ‘til the morning.
Another evening Dan stayed awake ready for the attack of the wild human hunters he was convinced were preparing to strike and gallantly allowed me to sleep and not share the stress.
We have learnt many techniques in the search of a perfect campsite, but shelter from the wind, the chance of the river you are sleeping next to flooding, the spiders finding a new home in your bags, on your bikes, and welcoming you out of the tent as well as the slugs acting like murderers are all trumped by a perfect view.
